Visiting the polar regions by boat is an extraordinary experience. Sailing among the icebergs and admiring the sumptuous Arctic landscapes invites reverie. However, the very comfort of the ship often deprives its passengers of the true confrontation with the immensity and raw power of this environment.
At SEDNA, we firmly believe that it is essential to fully immerse oneself in this environment to better understand and appreciate it. That's why we've designed a polar raid activity during a stopover to offer a more authentic experience.
The aim of this adventure was to plunge passengers into the reality of a polar raid, in complete autonomy, on skis and pulling a pulka, far from the ship. For three days, we skied on pack ice and in the mountains, spending two nights in tents, in total autonomy, in the kingdom of the polar bear.
For most of the participants, one of their most vivid memories was having to guard the camp at night against possible bear intrusion. Confronted with the polar night and the responsibility of protecting the group, they became aware, in complete safety, of human fragility in the face of the grandeur and harshness of this extreme environment.
They all returned to the ship with a part of the soul of the great polar explorers, and a furious desire to go back !
