The Weddell Sea is a gigantic isolated bay, covered with ice all year round, located on the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula. It contains one of the most natural and intact marine ecosystems in the world. It is a unique habitat of exceptional biodiversity and is home to Antarctic petrels, emperor and Adelie penguins, as well as numerous species of seals and whales.

Its relative isolation from the direct impacts of human activity makes it an ideal area to study indirect impacts, such as climate change and its consequences on the ocean, on sea and land ice and on biodiversity.

During 3 weeks, in December 2022, we take a multidisciplinary and international team of scientists on site to explore this unique place in the world.
